The word "rogue" comes from old English and French usage for a wandering outsider, and over the centuries it shifted from an insult to a badge of independence. Many riding groups still pick names in that spirit, and after the Second World War the habit of stitching a group name onto a sleeveless jacket turned into the familiar layout of a top rocker, a center emblem and a bottom rocker. Computer-controlled embroidery later made that layout easy to reproduce with fine detail at big sizes.
